Herzliche Einladung zur Münster Lecture mit Jonathas de Andrade, Künstler aus Recife, Brasilien.
Jonathas de Andrade (geb. 1982 in Maceió, Brasilien) lebt und arbeitet in Recife, Brasilien. Er entwickelt Videos, Fotografien und Installationen, die auf der Produktion von Bildern und Texten beruhen, wobei er Strategien einsetzt, die Fiktion und Realität, Tradition und Verhandlung mit lokalen Gemeinschaften einander gegenüberstellen. Ausgehend von den Interessen des Künstlers an sozialen Fragen, beziehen seine Arbeiten die Felder der Sprache und Anthropologie als Aspekte mit ein, die den Begriff der Wahrheit, der Macht, des Begehrens und des sozialen Imaginären in Frage stellen. Einzelausstellungen waren Jonathas de Andrade: Eye-Spark, Maat, Lissabon (2023) und Crac Alsace, Frankreich (2022); Pounce and Bounce, Pinacoteca de São Paulo (2023); In the hangover city, Mamam, Recife (2023); Staging Resistance, Foam Amsterdam (2022); One to One, Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago (2019); The Fish, New Museum, New York (2017); The Power Plant, Toronto (2017); Visiones del Nordeste, Museo Jumex, Mexico City (2017); Museu do Homem do Nordeste, MAR: Museum of Art, Rio de Janeiro (2014–2015). Zudem nahm er an Gruppenausstellungen wie der 16. Istanbul Biennale (2019); Artapes, MAXXI: National Museum of XXI Century Arts, Rom (2018); 32. Sao Paulo Biennale (2016); Unfinished Conversations: New Work from the Collection, The Museum of Modern Art MoMA (2015); und Under the Same Sun: Art from Latin America Today, Guggenheim Museum, New York (2014) teil. 2022 bespielte Jonathas de Andrade den brasilianischen Pavillon auf der 59. Venedig Biennale.

Jonathas de Andrade (born 1982 in Maceió, Brazil) lives and works in Recife, Brazil. He develops videos, photographs and installations based on the production of images and texts, using strategies that juxtapose fiction and reality, tradition and negotiation with local communities. Based on the artist's interests in social issues, his works incorporate the fields of language and anthropology as aspects that question the notion of truth, power, desire and the social imaginary.
