British artist Juliette Blightman works across painting, photography, film, drawing, performance, installation and text to produce a body of work that is rooted within the poetics of everyday life. From within that space, the artworks and exhibitions gently interrogate questions around the physical and mental spaces that social structures have built for the gendered subject. By refusing prescribed formulas and using several different strategies, she reflects on contemporary existence and communication and explores how painting might re-evaluate art history and canonical systems today.

Blightman’s work has been exhibited in solo and duo exhibitions at the Kölnischer Kunstverein, Cologne, the Vleeshal Center for Contemporary Art, Middelburg, the Kunsthalle Bern, Bern, Kunsthaus Bregenz, Bregenz and the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin. Performances and video works at Lafayette Anticipations, Paris; Haus am Waldsee, Berlin; Fridericianum, Kassel; South London Gallery, Hayward Gallery and the Institute of Contemporary Arts, London. Her exhibitions and artworks have been written about it ArtForum, Frieze and Texte Zur Kunst.

She graduated with a PhD in Fine Art from the Royal College of Art, London and a Master's in Fine Art from Central St Martins, London. She worked as a Senior Lecturer in Painting at Camberwell College of Arts, London previously to joining Kunstakademie Münster in May 2025 as Professor of Expanded Painting.
