Every year, the association Freunde der Kunstakademie Münster e. V. (friends of the University of Fine Arts Münster, website in German) presents three sponsorship awards. Students nominated by the art professors as being particularly worthy of support present their works in the award exhibition, which takes place in the Kunsthalle Münster. An external jury of experts selects the three award winners.
The award is supported by the cultural foundation of the insurance company Westfälische Provinzial Versicherung. The award is accompanied by a cash prize totalling 4,500 euros, which is allocated to the sponsorship award winners at the discretion of the jury (usually in equal shares).

The association Freunde der Kunstakademie Münster e.V. (Friends of the University of Fine Arts Münster) financially supports the Cité-des-Arts scholarship holders of the University of Fine Arts Münster, thus enabling students to spend six months at the Cité International des Arts Paris.

The studio at the Cité International des Arts Paris is allocated annually (subject to availability) for the periods from 1 April to 30 September and 1 October to 31 March.
