The University of Fine Arts Münster does NOT charge tuition fees. However, a semester fee is to be paid.

The semester fee (also known as “social contribution”) is a compulsory contribution that is charged pro rata for the semester ticket (NRW-/Regionalticket), for the student body (AStA contribution) and for the Studierendenwerk Münster (canteen, student halls of residence, etc.).

Currently, a fee of 325 euros is payable per semester. You will be informed about the current amount and how it is composed after admission.

Students with disabilities or chronic illnesses are particularly dependent on flexible study structures, as they are often unable to devote their full working capacity to their studies. They need additional time and energy for organising everyday life, therapy and rehabilitation measures.

The representative for students with disabilities or chronic illnesses works to ensure that the special needs of students with disabilities or chronic illnesses are taken into account and, in particular, that the legal provisions applicable in their favour are observed. Specifically, the representative is involved in the planning and organisation of teaching and study conditions and in compensating for disadvantages with regard to studies and examinations. Furthermore, the representative is the person to contact for complaints by those affected.

There are various ways to finance your studies. Many students can receive financial support from the state in accordance with the Federal Training Assistance Act, BAföG (Bundesausbildungsförderungsgesetz). For studying in Münster, BAföG applications can be submitted to the Student Support Services, Studierendenwerk Münster.

However, the fact that two out of three students in Germany have a part-time job shows that state or private support is often not enough to cover living expenses. Depending on the type of part-time job (e.g. marginal employment, vacation job, working student or student assistant), students need to observe various things.

Initial information and an overview of other financing options can be found on the website of the German Student Union: Funding options

Münster’ great attractiveness also has a disadvantage: for some years now, the housing market in Münster has been extremely tight. It is not easy for students to find affordable housing on the open market. An alternative are the student residences of the Student Support Services Münster. This offer ranges from the classic room in a hall of residence to apartments and shared flats. The Student Support Services also provide emergency accommodation in cases of hardship. There are also special offers for students with children and students with disabilities.
In almost all cases, an application is necessary, which should be made very early.
All information can be found on the website of the Student Support Services under “Accommodation”. The City of Münster’s website also provides useful information for people looking for accommodation.

The fee for the semester ticket is already included in the semester fee. The semester ticket allows students to make extensive use of public transport throughout North Rhine-Westphalia.

You can find more information about the semester ticket here:

Members of the University of Fine Arts Münster can participate in the extensive university sports programme at University of Münster. The offer includes about 150 types of sport. There are additional offers for health promotion and sports for the disabled.

The sports tours are very popular (e.g. sailing, skiing, canoeing, surf camps, trekking and hiking tours, etc.).

The university’s own fitness studio can also be used. All offers as well as information on registration and tariffs can be found here:
